6/21/16 — Welcome Dan Buron, Our New Executive Director
The Goodwill Northern Michigan Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the selection of Dan Buron to serve as the new Chief Executive Officer for our Goodwill starting in July 2016.
Dan brings more than 15 years of leadership experience with Goodwill organizations throughout the United States. This has included time at the national office in the Washington D.C. area, the Hawaii Goodwill, as the Chief Workforce Development Officer for Goodwill in Grand Rapids and serving most recently as the CEO for Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Michigan in Adrian, Michigan.
With success in building innovative community partnerships to meet the challenges of a community; Dan looks forward to serving our northern Michigan communities to provide and strengthen resources to enhance, and expand the Goodwill mission to assist neighbors in need with access to Jobs, Housing and Food.
“Goodwill Northern Michigan is a well-respected and innovative organization that I am honored to be joining. They are a leader in the community with a strong social enterprise and commitment to their Mission,” said Dan. “I look forward to working with the team to build off these successes and being active in the Northern Michigan area.”
Dan will officially start his new position with Goodwill on July 18, 2016. He has been recognized for his team building skills. “Respect, trust, and open communication are key concepts when it comes to developing a solid team and organization,” he said. He looks forward to taking the time to get to know the entire Goodwill staff.
A huge fan of the Grand Traverse region, Dan is excited to move with his family, including his wife, Christine and their two young daughters, McKeiley and Gabby. “I love spending time with my family,” said Dan. “I look forward to enjoying this beautiful area with them; hiking, swimming, and hopefully getting back out on my kayak!”
Dan will succeed Cecil McNally, who will retire from his leadership role as CEO after 13 years with Goodwill Northern Michigan. Cecil will stay on with Goodwill through September 2016 to aid in the transition of leadership as we welcome Dan.
“I look forward to Dan joining our Goodwill,” said Cecil. “He will be an outstanding leader for the organization, bringing together our staff, supporters, and the communities we serve.”
THANK YOU, CECIL
During Cecil’s tenure, he expanded the organization’s retail operations in the region, which are designed to fund mission services, from three stores to nine and developed e-commerce and recycling operations.
He was instrumental in building the Goodwill Inn emergency shelter for adults and families. He also established Patriot Place, a transitional housing community for veterans experiencing homelessness, in Gaylord and most recently led efforts to break ground for the construction and April 2016 opening of Carson Square, a 36-unit, 100% supportive housing community in Garfield Township. He also had a significant role in adding Food Rescue and new food service and job training programs to Goodwill’s community outreach efforts.
“We are thankful to Cecil for his vision and commitment to enhancing the lives of so many in our communities,” said Greg Payne, Goodwill Northern Michigan Board Chairman. “We’re looking forward to building upon his legacy and continuing our positive trajectory of growth and impact with the selection of Dan Buron to lead and represent our mission services throughout Northern Michigan.”
