12/16/15 — Local Cheboygan Mother of Four Selected to Receive Workers on Wheels Car Giveaway
December 16, 2015 (Traverse City, Mich.;) Thanks to the outpouring of support demonstrated by the Cheboygan community, Goodwill Northern Michigan is pleased to announce the local, hardworking family selected to receive the Workers on Wheels (WoW) 2006 Toyota Corolla car giveaway.
The deserving recipient, Kirstin Boss and her four children, was described in her community member submitted nomination as a “ hard-working, dedicated single mom who works multiple jobs to make ends meet and provide for the needs of her children.”
Goodwill’s WoW committee had the difficult task of choosing among the 26 nominations each presenting a compelling situation requiring vehicle assistance. Congratulations to Kirsten and a heartfelt thanks for the example she sets to her own family and to those whose lives she comes in contact with.
“Thank you to the Cheboygan community for their participation,” said LuAnn Heinert, Director of Workers on Wheels. “Either as someone who took time to nominate a fellow neighbor or as a nominee in need of transportation, together we are changing lives through GOOD for GOOD.”
Heinert hopes this process has created community awareness of the Goodwill WoW program to encourage folks in the area to consider donating their pre-loved vehicle so that we can provide a transportation solution to more of those families who were nominated.
Workers on Wheels, a Goodwill Northern Michigan program, aims to increase the independence and mobility of hard-working, low income families through safe, reliable transportation
WoW has assisted hundreds of local families with vehicles since 1999. Donated cars are inspected, repaired, and awarded to a low-income, working family in need. We keep it local! All vehicles are awarded in the same area from which they were donated.
Over the last year, Goodwill Northern Michigan, a locally operated non-profit organization, has expanded its donations-based retail presence and mission services to better accommodate its vast territory. The local Goodwill has a service area of 19 northern Michigan counties, from Wexford to Presque Isle, with Traverse City acting as its hub.
Goodwill Northern Michigan strengthens communities by enhancing the dignity and quality of life for people in need by overcoming barriers to opportunities through learning and the power of work. Learn more at www.goodwillnmi.org.
