Workers on Wheels Car Donation program

Mission

The mission of the Workers on Wheels program is to provide safe, reliable transportation for area low income, working families. Building on the generosity of vehicle donors, we empower those in need to progress toward self-sufficiency and an improved quality of life.

How the program works

The Workers on Wheels car donation program matches vehicles with families in need to promote employment and independence. The goal of the Workers on Wheels program is to provide safe, reliable transportation for area low income, working families in Northern Michigan.

The success of the Workers on Wheels program comes from the collaborative resources of human services agencies throughout Northern Michigan and their collective belief that gainful employment minimizes dependence on state-supported assistance. Applications brought to the table by service providers are reviewed, prioritized, discussed and considered based on family size, commuting distance and other qualification criteria.

To be eligible for a WOW vehicle, an individual must:
• Be employed FULL TIME (minimum 30 hours per week)
• Possess a valid Michigan driver license
• Have a reasonable safe driving record
• Be receiving services through Department of Human Services
• Have NOT received a prior vehicle award from WOW or from another ‘car purchase’ community program.

Car awards through WOW help families maintain their steady job, get their children to necessary appointments and fulfill every day needs.

Goodwill accepts cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles, RVs, boats, and snowmobiles on trailers. For items that are not titled, registration must be provided.

Impact

“I am able to work, go to school, take my infant daughter to appointments and get the necessities as needed. Thank you so much! WOW is absolutely helpful! L.W.

“Thank you so much for your help and all the good you do for so many people. I have been able to get to work and able to pick up my daughter from school without worrying if I would break down or wondering how I would get there. We are now able to do after school activities and I have been able to take more hours at work if called in.” Sandy and children

Car donations are accepted in Traverse City, Cadillac, Gaylord and Petoskey.
