General Shelter Services
Services at the Goodwill Inn are designed to help people rebuild their lives. The Inn provides more than shelter, it provides support and hope.
Each guest follows an individualized plan for independence. Case managers provided by Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan, Inc., provide case management and connect individuals with other community services and resources to help them get back on their feet.
Guests of the Goodwill Inn are offered a wide range of life skill classes through Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan, Inc. including budgeting, vocational support, emotional management, goal setting, housing, parenting, and other classes.
The shelter offers separate dormitory-style rooms for single men and single women. Families are housed together in family rooms in the family wing. A community room is centrally located for guests to interact and relax in the evenings. Kitchen facilities are available for guests to prepare their own meals with food provided by many local donors. Qualified staff is on duty 24 hours a day to assist guests and to provide support.
The Goodwill Inn's expectations of guests include:
- Must be actively seeking employment and housing.
- If unable to work, must volunteer at a local non-profit agency of the guest's choosing
- Must adhere to all Inn rules, including zero tolerance for substance abuse and violence
- Must be actively participating in their individual plan for independence
