11/13/14 — Troy Shultz, 2014 GOOD Work Award Winner
Congratulations to Troy Shultz, the 2014 GOOD Work Award Winner. The Good Work Award pays tribute to someone who has graduated from a Goodwill Job training program and has obtained dependable and reliable work in our Northern Michigan community.
Hear Troy’s story below:
Troy came to us through the Goodwill Inn when his life was in crisis. He was in a place of homelessness and joblessness and walked through the doors of the Goodwill Inn when no others were open to him.
During his time at the Goodwill Inn, Troy enrolled in one of our new Retail Training programs at the Goodwill store and donation center in Traverse City. After a 90-day period, full of hands-on training, career building resources, and case management support, Troy turned down a job at a Goodwill store for a more competitive position at a local Meijer. Troy would have made a great Goodwill store employee, but we are so thrilled that he found a more competitive position where he can build his career.
Through his work with Goodwill, Troy now has his own place to live, a steady job that he is passionate about, and a whole new outlook on life.
We are proud to help people like Troy Shultz. Keep up the GOOD work!
