11/11/14 — John Bratten, 2014 GOOD Move Award Winner
In honor of Veteran’s Day, we salute John Bratten. John was just announced the 2014 GOOD Move Award Winner. The Good Move Award celebrates a graduate of our Goodwill HOUSING program who has worked diligently to transition into secured, safe, permanent housing in Northern Michigan.
Hear John’s story below:
John was one of the estimated 50,000 veterans experiencing homelessness on any given night in the streets across America. In 2003, John hit a crisis in his life, and for nearly a decade, he struggled with substance abuse and homelessness as he wandered the countryside from Washington State to southern Michigan.
John found his way to Patriot Place, Goodwill Northern Michigan’s transitional housing community for veterans. Through his hard work, perseverance, and a hand-up from his Goodwill partners, John has moved on to his own apartment, a meaningful career, and stable independence. For these reasons, he was recently honored with our GOOD Move Award at our Gather for GOOD annual celebration.
We are proud to help people like John Bratten, and we will continue to proudly serve those that served us all.
