11/20/13 — Homelessness is a year round issue
As the weather turns wet, cold and snowy those of us with housing may tend to think a little more about people who are experiencing homeless. They may be sleeping in their car, camping in the woods, staying in a storage unit or sleeping under a bench or a bridge. They have no place to call home, nowhere to safely keep their belongings, and they are certainly more subject to the elements. One chronically homeless woman states, “I’m OK, really, I just don’t like to wake up covered in snow”.
By mid November Safe Harbor, a seasonal rotating church-hosted shelter, will be open to provide overnight shelter and meals to people experiencing homelessness on the streets of Traverse City. Safe Harbor operates during winter months.
