8/30/13 — Car Donation Makes Life Changing Impact – meet the Nelson Family
Little did the Flowers family know that their generous response to a radio story about Goodwill’s Workers on Wheels program would lead to such life-changing impact for one local, struggling, single-parent family. The gift of their high mileage 2001 Toyota Camry sparked a series of positive changes for Kathleen Nelson and her two young daughters.
“The vehicle has provided me freedom both financially and personally and made our family stronger!” said Nelson. She had worked her way up to management at Save-A-Lot over the past three years but still struggled to get ahead, desperately trying to fulfill the basic needs of her children with only walking or biking for transportation. “I don’t think people really understand the amazing thing they are doing when they donate a car. They are answering prayers,” Nelson said. “Having the car has allowed me to work additional hours and at different locations, making it easier to pay the bills, save money and include the girls in school and social activities.”
In the five months that the Nelsons have had the car they have been able to reduce their reliance on public assistance and are excitedly looking forward to purchasing a home in the future. “There are no words to explain how much the car donor and the Workers on Wheels program have changed our lives. We are very thankful!”
